Hint of Spring
February went out like a lion in western France on Sunday with a terrible storm that left at least 50 dead, homes flooded, and more than a million homes without electricity. High winds sent awnings flapping, street signs flying, and tipped over parked motorcycles in Paris too although that was the worst of it.
Yesterday morning we awoke to blue skies and while the air was still cold, there was a hint of spring in the air. The sun is up and shining at 8:00 am when my kids leave for school and it was still out when my older child arrived back home around 6:00 pm. The crocuses have pushed their way up and the forsythia is in bud. We're not out of the woods yet but at least we have hope for brighter, warmer days ahead.

that picture has made my day....thanks Anne
A dear friend just returned from a week in Paris. He said that it was quite crowded for February - he visits every winter.
We are still waiting to hear from a friend in the area of coastal France. It sounded like a terrible storm and we know many are without electricity.

What a lovely picture. There is nothing like a harsh winter to make us really appreciate the beauty of spring.
Hooray! Spring is happening somewhere in the world--we'll see it in Wisconsin by the end of April, probably. ;-) We visited Paris in March 2008, and while they were having a blast of cold, the daffodils were blooming and gave us some hope!
According to one Frenchman, most of those people died because they didn't take the proper precautions and, knowing the French as I do, I tend to believe him.
So jealous! Flowers around here (New Orleans) are budding but taking for-ever to bloom :)
same here in London for the past 2 days - almost daylight when I leave home and light for around an hour when I return. Bulbs in garden starting to bloom.
Just checked weather forecast for Saturday in Paris (quick run over to see 'Romeo et Juliette') and it is saying min of -3, max of 4 with snow so I guess winter may still return!
