Eggs, Milk, Laundry Detergent, Champagne

I don't know about where you live but there sure as shooting ain't no champagne in my neighborhood grocery store in DC.  Well to be fair, the liquor laws don't allow sales in the supermarket.  Even if they did, I don't think they'd have a big honking display of Veuve Cliquot right there next to the bacon and the packaged salads.  For the record, I did not stock up.  Yet I somehow was able to spend 60 euros and I still don't have anything in the cupboard for dinner tonight.

sounds like my grocery list, too! Champagne is always good for dinner!

To be fair, mine does. Wegmans in Sterling. La Veuve. Right next to the packaged salads. No kidding. That said I would rather be back in Paris! Had a whirlwind two night trip and it was fabulous! Envy your life there.

That'a a good price! In our store, it's next to the cash register to entice impulse purchase ;)

Hello Anne,

I'm french and, as an English language learner, I am looking for English speaking people living in Paris who would be available for a monthly coffee break to talk with me. I am particularly interested in cultural matters (Books & Movies)... If you are trying to learn french, we also could speak french to help you, on any subject of your choice...

I will come back to your blog to see your answer. Should any of your relations be interested, please, let me know...

You can have a look to my Weblog if you want to know some more about me!

So, Florida isn't as backward as I thought. Our local supermarkets do sell wines and champagne, but for the most part, they've stopped stocking the good stuff and only showcase stuff like Korbel, Cook and André.

Nymphette: Thanks for reading and your offer. I'm pretty busy at the moment. If you're looking for a French-English language exchange, there are a couple of organizations in Paris that do this and you might be able to tap into them. Read this post on my other blog, Posted in Paris:

With the conversion, I'm surprized to see it's actually MORE in your supermarket than in mine [Kroger] here in Atlanta!
